Fish & Game Club
Present: Roger Bowen, Elaine Brown, Steve & Steven Sears, Taylor, Kurt & Denita VanWyk, Jay Wilson, and Brian Helvig.
Discussion on the March 29th shoot results. Thanks to Kurt & Denita for manning the concessions. Thank you to Shaun, Roger, Jay & Karen, Mick, Dave, David, Lee, Taylor, Steven, Steve, Mark A, Mark S, Ned, Rhett, Mike, and Matt for the help with target setup on Saturday and takedown on Sunday. (Sorry if I missed anyone) There were 112 shooters. Discussion on shoot fees, maybe only one price next year but keep the family rate. The Woodbine club did not work out so maybe we could use their date next year. Might need to do a little rearranging on the target setup to help eliminate any back up areas. Practice targets need new stands, maybe use conduit next time. Need a bow holder rack at the shoot. Project for Mick and Jay as they have an idea for a portable rack. Jay checked on the Delta elk target. May be ready 4-6 weeks. When shipped, then the club will pay for the bear target that was originally shipped in error. Jay to check with Midwest Trophy to order more medals for the cubs and peewees. Need to check on more score cards and registration sheets before the July shoot
Will need to plan on purchasing at least four new targets, and maybe replacement pieces, from Booneville, MO. Targets at the narrows are getting used and need some attention. In spite of the signs, people have been shooting broadheads into the targets and creating holes when they have to dig them out. Might want to rotate targets between the Narrows and Hitchcock.
Discussion and interest in an outdoor league at the Narrows. There is enough room to put out 10 of the older targets to use for a 3-D league.
The city will have qualifying next year for the city deer hunt. They also will require Bowhunter Education certification. The club needs to find a place and time to conduct a class.
How to get the club more publicity? Shoot card passes to distribute for new bow purchases at Bass Pro, a laminated club poster at the Bass Pro range, new club banner for display at the shoots. Organize an archery day at the Narrows and use the Genesis bows. Host a “Hunter’s Garage Sale” at a large parking lot or building. Get a list of bowhunters in the area and mail a flyer of club events.
If the club is interested in being one of the IBA shoots for next year we need to let the IBA know no later than January next year.
Brett Ford will be gone from the park system at the end of April. He has been a tremendous help for the club at Hitchcock. Will send him a “Thank you” card and a gift certificate to Lansky’s.
